Admission Criteria
1. Minimum Educational Qualification
Candidates seeking admission to the Teachers’ Training Institute (Diploma in Education) must have passed Higher Secondary (Class 12) or an equivalent examination from a recognized Board or Council with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.
A relaxation of up to 5% in the qualifying marks may be provided to candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Class (OBC) categories, as applicable under the prescribed rules.
Candidates holding qualifications higher than the minimum eligibility requirement will not receive any additional or bonus marks. For fresh candidates, selection will be based strictly on their performance in the Higher Secondary or equivalent examination.
2. Age Eligibility
The minimum age required for admission is 18 years as of 1st July of the respective admission year.
The maximum age limit is 35 years. Age relaxation may be applicable to candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, and other eligible categories in accordance with the prevailing government regulations.
3. Reservation of Seats
Seats are reserved for candidates belonging to various eligible categories as per the applicable reservation guidelines. The indicative reservation percentages are:
Scheduled Caste (SC): 22%
Scheduled Tribe (ST): 6%
Other Backward Class (OBC): 7%
Persons with Disabilities (PwD): 3%
Candidates from the Vocational Stream will be eligible for a maximum of 4% of the total approved intake, in accordance with the applicable NCTE regulations.
4. Intake Capacity
The number of students admitted to each institute will be determined according to the prevailing norms and guidelines of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).
5. Course Duration
The Elementary Teacher Education Programme is conducted over a period of two academic years.
6. Calculation of Marks
For admission purposes, the percentage obtained in the Higher Secondary examination will generally be calculated based on the best five subjects, excluding Environmental Studies (ES).
For candidates whose Board or Council follows a grading system, grades will be converted into percentages according to the official rules and regulations of the respective Board or Council.
7. Medium of Instruction
The primary medium of instruction for the programme is English.
8. Medical Fitness
Applicants must meet the prescribed medical fitness requirements and should be physically fit to undertake the teacher education programme. Candidates suffering from any disqualifying congenital or other medical condition may be subject to the applicable admission rules.
Pregnant candidates may be subject to the admission and medical guidelines prescribed by the concerned authority.
